Windows
Use Character Map, the touch keyboard symbol panel, or copy the symbol above.
Microsoft Word
Type 0024, then Alt+X. Word converts the hexadecimal Unicode value into the symbol.
Mac
Press Control+Command+Space to open Character Viewer, search for the symbol name, and insert it. Copy and paste is often faster for occasional use.
Chromebook and Linux
On supported systems, press Ctrl+Shift+U, type 24, and press Enter. Chromebook users can also use the on-screen keyboard or copy the symbol.
iPhone and Android
Long-press related keyboard keys when the symbol is built in. Otherwise, copy it from this page and paste it into the destination app.
Meaning and Correct Use
Place the sign before the amount in standard US English, such as $25. Add an ISO code when the type of dollar is unclear.
Use the exact Unicode character rather than a visually similar substitute when meaning, search, sorting, accessibility, or computer processing matters.
